Learn Something's Fall Festival Fundraiser
It is with a heavy heart that I must write this. We have decided NOT to host a fall festival this year.
With so little backing from the community, we felt it unfair and wasteful to host another festival. Our plan is to restart the festival as soon as we're able to gain more support.
There are a lot of things working against us right now and I wanted to keep you all in the loop. I highlighted our main goals and progress points below. If you can help us make any further progress, it would be greatly appreciated!
-- We are looking for board members to join us in our mission to spread education in the Bellingham community. There are currently NO resources in the town of Bellingham. That's over 16,000 people who have no ability to access community education in their own town. Bellingham is the third largest town in about a 10 mile radius, and the largest town in that area without a program. There are many towns smaller than us who provide community education for their residents, why don't we?
-- We are still fighting to find a space in Bellingham where we can offer classes free to the public. Unfortunately, since we are not yet legally a non-profit, using the space in the public schools will cost us over $60/hour with a two hour minimum each day. We just don't have the funds to support a room rental of $60/hour in addition to paying our teachers a good wage. Even if we were a non-profit, it would still cost $40/hour for a room, with a two hour minimum each day.
-- Our next course of action is to write letters to our local board members, chairpersons, counsel members, committee members etc. We feel that this is the logical next step to starting a program in Bellingham. We have tried time and time again to find a location in any of the town buildings, but we have always been told no, or been asked for large sums of money. We've tried the library, municipal center and even some of the fire stations. We feel that it's important to have support from prominent members of the community when we return to ask these locations for space.
-- If you have any suggestions, we are all ears! If you would like to be a part of our board, have ideas for a location or anything else, we are happy to listen! This is an organization for the community, so it only makes sense to receive guidance from our community members.
If you've made it this far, thank you so much for reading and feel free to reach out to us for any reason.
Thank you for all of your support so far.
